Lido Bathing Complex

The Complexo Balnear do Lido is Funchal's classic municipal bathing complex, sitting on the rocks in the Lido hotel district. A large seawater pool, diving boards and concrete sun terraces fill the space between the promenade and the open Atlantic.

It is cheap, lifeguarded and open year-round — locals swim before work and families take over at weekends. Sea access is by ladder on calm days; the pool is the safer option when the swell rolls in.

The complex marks the start of the seafront promenade: from here it runs west past Ponta Gorda and Doca do Cavacas all the way to Praia Formosa — flat, paved and ocean-side the whole way.
